For over 25 years, Southwest Care Center has been providing exceptional healthcare to the communities of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. We are a non-profit, FQHC-LAL providing medical, behavioral health, case management, community outreach, diabetes education, and pharmacy services. We are proud to offer gender equity medicine, syringe exchange, and HIV/Hep C treatment, testing and other services within our communities.

Southwest Care Center is currently seeking an experienced full-time Pediatrician. This position supports the Harkle Clinic in Santa Fe; therefore, candidate must reside in the local market area of Albuquerque or Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Position Details:

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Pediatrician will provide comprehensive, family-centered medical care to infants, children, and adolescents. This role will focus on wellness and prevention while also managing acute and chronic pediatric conditions in a collaborative, team-based environment.

As a key member of the clinical staff, this role will conduct well-child exams, administer immunizations, diagnose and treat a range of pediatric illnesses, and support children’s physical, emotional, and developmental health. The Pediatrician will engage closely with families from perse backgrounds to deliver culturally competent care, provide anticipatory guidance, and coordinate services with specialists, schools, and community resources.

This position offers opportunities to contribute to quality improvement initiatives, mentor students, and participate in pediatric program development and community outreach. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented provider committed to delivering high-quality, accessible pediatric care in an outpatient setting.

Position responsibilities include but not limited to:

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive well-child care, including physical exams, immunizations, and developmental screenings.
  • Diagnose and manage acute illnesses (e.g., infections, injuries, minor emergencies).
  • Manage chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, obesity, allergies).
  • Offer preventive health education to children and families, including nutrition, safety, and growth milestones.
  • Evaluate and refer patients to specialists or ancillary services as needed.
  • Order and interpret lab tests, imaging, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Document patient visits clearly and accurately using the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Patient & Family Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with children and their families across perse cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide age-appropriate anticipatory guidance to caregivers during each stage of child development.
  • Address behavioral, emotional, and developmental concerns, collaborating with mental health providers when appropriate.

Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators, and other professionals to ensure integrated care.
  • Participate in care planning for children with complex medical or social needs.
  • Coordinate with schools, therapists, public health programs, and community resources as appropriate.

Administrative & Professional

  • Maintain compliance with all clinical protocols, billing requirements, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Complete charting and coding in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team meetings.
  • Stay up to date with continuing medical education (CME) and professional licensure.
  • May participate in on-call rotation (if applicable—usually minimal or phone-only in outpatient settings).
  • Opportunity to provide preceptorship or mentorship to students participating in clinicals.
  • Serve on clinic committees or participate in community health outreach.
  • Help design or support pediatric health programs or initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Highlights:

  • Post-residency experience with 3+ years preferred in a primary care setting.
  • Degree from an Accredited Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) program along completion of residency program(s).
  • Valid, unencumbered license to Practice Medicine in the State of New Mexico, Board Certified in Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine. DEA registration.
